Kelly Hrudey

Hockey Night in Canada Commentator and NHL Goaltender

Kelly Hrudey is one of the country’s best hockey analysts and a popular figure on Hockey Night in Canada. A thoughtful and engaging on-air persona, he is equally adept on stage in front of a live audience. Hrudey’s keynotes are a hit — with fans, and importantly, non-fans. He takes you on a you-are-there, behind-the-scenes tour of our national game, sharing anecdotes from the famous and the infamous, recounting on and off ice dramas, celebrating the role players, and generally capturing the breakneck excitement of the best that the National Hockey League has to offer.

Hrudey earned his stripes as a hockey commentator the hard way: stopping the blistering shots of the NHL’s biggest stars. In his fifteen-year career as a goaltender for the New York Islanders, Los Angeles Kings, and San Jose Sharks, he compiled an impressive winning record and a goals against average of 3.43, and 16 shutouts. In his broadcasting career, he continues to excel, providing hockey fans with some of the most incisive, level-headed, well researched and accurate commentary available. Hrudey became a full-time Hockey Night in Canada analyst during the 1998-99 season; during the 1999 NHL playoffs, his popular segment “Behind the Mask” became a regular feature. He also co-hosts the popular After Hours, an interactive show running after the Saturday night game that is becoming a must-see fix for those wanting more Hockey Night in Canada. During the season, Hrudey also writes a weekly column in the Calgary Sun.
